Ambarish Mitra is the CEO and Co-Founder of Blippar, one of the world’s leading visual browser and fastest growing augmented reality player. Under his direction, Blippar has grown from groundbreaking idea to an industry leader with 200+ employees, 10 offices and 50million+ users (post-Layar acquisition). Blippar has been recognized as one of the fastest growing companies by CNN, CNBC, UKTI, Forbes, FastCompany, etc. and is ranked number 9th in CNBC list of most disruptive companies. As the CEO Ambarish is leading the development and execution of Blippar’s long-term strategy, vision, and overall direction.
Determined to steer the growth of the AR industry and champion the new consumer behavior, Ambarish is also looking at growing the company by acquiring new technologies and companies, similar to the acquisition of Layar in June 2014, a pioneering AR company founded in the late 2000s. With a vision to create the ultimate physical world browser, Ambarish, has been widely recognized for his unconventional business thinking and people-driven philosophical approach to management and in 2014 and in 2015 was shortlisted by Ernst & Young as UK Entrepreneur of the Year.
Mitra is regarded as one of the pioneers of augmented reality and has been instrumental in driving brands and publishers to amplify the reach of their traditional media and products into full on interactive channels. Blippar has already shown great traction for its behaviour with billions of interactions from millions of users on thousands of brands, including Condé Nast, TIME Inc, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle, Procter & Gamble, Universal Pictures and Jaguar.
Considered as successful entrepreneur, he has over 15 years of Internet and mobile technology experience across retail, portal, travel, social, finance and government. Mitra started his tech career in 1997 as a high school drop-out entrepreneur on a noble topic of Women Empowerment in India - womeninfoline.com which successfully IPO'd in year 2000. Post moving to UK he helped many UK based retails into successful e-tails. He was the 3rd employee in a travel startup isango, which was sold to Thomas Cook. In 2009 as Head of Innovation at AXA Insurance he was the driving force behind their mobile strategy. In 2011 awarded Insurance IT Leader of the Year, by Post Strategic Technology Forum.
Listed amongst industry experts, Ambarish has often been invited to keynote sessions on pioneering innovations at some of the esteemed institutes and industry events like Mobile World Congress, CES, Qualcomm Uplinq Harvard Business School, London School of Economics, Oxford University and London Business School to name a few.
He received his MS.c in E-Commerce, Management & Strategy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Ambarish completed his BA (Hons) in International Business from the University of London.
